SHAH ALAM, Nov 22 – Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has stressed the importance of providing sufficient funding and resources to the Selangor Royal Household to maintain and defend the sovereignty of the institution.

Addressing the State Legislative Assembly, Amirudin said these funds are not only essential for supporting the royal household, but are also used to establish formal communication channels, vital in today's era of open and unrestricted communications and media.

He said in an age where digital and social media platforms are prevalent, official channels of communication are indispensable for preserving the integrity and respect of the royal family.

“To date, His Royal Highness (Sultan of Selangor) has established several institutions and communication channels, including his own social media account, something that was not seen in the past seven years or so.

“Therefore, these additional allocations are necessary to address issues such as slander and respond to those who question the role of the state ruler.

“I am not pointing fingers at any specific parties, but there are such tendencies observed among some quarters. However, it is our responsibility as leaders to preserve and educate the younger generation.

“They should not be overly fixated on a particular group but should understand the social structure and the Federal Constitution in its entirety,” he said in his winding-up speech for the Royal Allocation Enactment Bill (Amendment) 2023.

In his address to the House, Amirudin detailed the increases in allocations for the state royal household.

He said under the amended enactment, allocation under Class III will be increased from RM7.25 million to RM7.65 million. This increase is primarily for emoluments for staff of the royal household.

Allocation under Class IV, meant for emoluments for contract staff and replacement of equipment, is also increased from RM16.43 million to RM17.01 million.

The bill received unanimous support in the state assembly, including state Opposition leader Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.
