SHAH ALAM, Nov 14 — The Sultan Idris Shah Green Energy Plant (SISGE) is expected to start the construction of its first phase in Gombak next June, said the KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) managing director.

Dato' Ramli Mohd Tahir said the construction of the first phase of the environmentally and community friendly energy plant was also equipped with supporting infrastructure facilities.

"The first phase of the project physically begins after reaching 'targeted financial closure (FC)' in June next year and the construction period is 36 months.

"All the details of the first phase project will be communicated to the public through a transparent and complete environmental study process and are expected to be completed by the end of this year," he said when contacted by Selangorkini.

He added that for the entire construction of the energy plant it is expected to use 245 acres of land that has been allocated by the State Government.

"KDEBWM has selected YTL Power Generation International Berhad through the proposal process for requests as a collaboration partner for the implementation of the first phase of the project," he explained.

Last week, the Menteri Besar, when presenting the Selangor Budget 2024, announced the development of a four-phase plant capable of burning 2,400 tonnes of garbage a day and generating 130.5 MW of electricity.

Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari explained that the project developed by KDEBWM optimises management costs in solid waste management by maintaining the quality and cleanliness of the environment.

At a cost of RM4.5 billion through private financing initiatives, the existence of the park will also make Selangor comparable to developed countries in more sustainable solid waste management.
