Several areas face water disruption after Sungai Selangor odour pollution

By Danial Dzulkifly

SHAH ALAM, Oct 10 — An odour pollution in Sungai Selangor has led to unscheduled water supply disruptions in various parts of the Klang Valley, including Shah Alam, Petaling, Gombak, Kuala Lumpur, Hulu Selangor and Kuala Selangor.

Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd's (Air Selangor) acting chief executive officer Abas Abdullah said in a statement today that the pollution prompted a temporary shutdown of several water treatment plants (WTP).

They are the Sungai Selangor Phase 1, 2 and 3, as well as the Rantau Panjang WTPs.

Operations at all the affected water treatment facilities later resumed as of 4am this morning.

“However, there are still water supply disruptions and low water pressure in parts of the Klang Valley, Shah Alam, Petaling, Gombak, Kuala Lumpur, Hulu Selangor and Kuala Selangor regions.

“A list of the affected areas is currently being updated and will be notified soon,’’ he said.

To mitigate the impact of the disruption, Abas said Air Selangor has dispatched water tankers to cater to the needs of the affected residents, giving priority to critical areas.

Selangor will keep the public informed about further developments concerning this incident, he added.

Updates are available across various platforms, including Air Selangor mobile application, Facebook, Instagram, and X (previously known as Twitter).

Alternatively, the public can also reach out to Air Selangor directly via the 15300 helpline.
