JOHOR BAHRU, Sept 9 — Sixty-one polling centres with 362 streams opened simultaneously at 8am today for the Pulai and Simpang Jeram by-elections.
There are 47 polling centres in Pulai and 14 in Simpang Jeram. All are scheduled to close at 6pm.
Based on the latest data released by the Election Commission yesterday, 205,810 registered voters will be casting their ballots today, with 165,509 in Pulai and 40,301 in Simpang Jeram.
These voters will be electing new representatives to replace the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, who died on July 23.
On Tuesday, 831 policemen voted in Pulai with a 90 per cent turnout. There was no early voting for the Simpang Jeram by-election.
Both by-elections feature three-cornered contests between Pakatan Harapan (Harapan), Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Independent candidates.
In Pulai, Harapan candidate Suhaizan Kaiat faces PN’s Zulkifli Jaafar and Independent candidate Samsudin Mohamad Fauzi.
In Simpang Jeram, Harapan’s Nazri Abdul Rahman is taking on PN’s Dr Mohd Mazri Yahya and Independent candidate S. Jeganathan.
