SHAH ALAM, Aug 11 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said August 14 will be a public holiday for Selangor if the unity government wins the state polls tomorrow.
In a special address on the eve of the election, Amirudin said this decision was unanimously agreed upon by all coalition partners.
He said this election is crucial in deciding the state administration for the next five years, and urged all to vote.
“You, the voters, have a choice between a government that will continue the legacy of the state’s success or a coalition that aims to use this election to create political instability and confusion.
“Clearly, they have nothing new to offer for Selangor,” he said.
Amirudin said the unity coalition will fulfil its manifesto within 100 days of forming the state government, with five priorities:
- RM1,000 aid to reduce 5,000 working women's childcare costs
- Assessment rate exemptions for village homes and low-cost housing
- RM200 Kita Selangor book voucher for 1,000 university students in Selangor
- Increase in allowances for imams (RM1,600), bilals (RM700) and siak (RM500)
- RM1,000 Kita Selangor Agriculture and Fishing Incentive for 500 farmers, padi cultivators and fishermen.
The caretaker MB, in his address, recalled his administration’s successes in dealing with pandemic as well as major floods in 2021 that affected over 130,000 families in the state.
He urged Selangor voters to choose the coalition that has shown its ability to overcome crises and govern effectively.
Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah go to the polls tomorrow.
Up for grabs are 245 seats across the six states — 56 in Selangor, 45 in Kelantan, 40 in Penang, 36 each in Kedah and Negeri Sembilan, and 32 in Terengganu.
Data as of June 21 showed there are 9,773,571 voters ready to cast their ballots in the elections.
