TANJONG KARANG, Aug 1 — Pakatan Harapan's candidate for Permatang is keen on serving as the voice and advocate of farmers in the state constituency.
Mohd Yahya Mat Sahri, fondly known as Pak Ya, said rising paddy production costs, which affect the farmers' incomes, is something he intends to highlight to the Federal government, particularly the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry (MAFS).
As such, he proposes several to address the issues Permatang's farmers face.
"The first is a programme to restore paddy fields, which will help to enhance the farmers' productivity. Another is to increase the subsidies for rice (grains) and fertilisers, which will support higher paddy output.
"I am looking at raising these matters with MAFS, should I win Permatang," Pak Ya said during the media briefing at Harapan's operations room, earlier today,
He is set to face off against Perikatan Nasional's Nurul Syazwani Noh. The Election Commission has set August 8 as the early voting date, with polling on August 12.
