KUALA SELANGOR, July 23 — The state and Federal governments should formulate and table an Act on the gig industry, so as to protect and uphold the welfare of its workers.
State executive councillor for youth and sports Mohd Khairuddin Othman said the opportunity to accompany the Prime Minister to the Temu Anwar Selangor X Belia P-Hailing event yesterday was used to bring forth the proposal.

"The state and Federal governments are working to give a voice to gig economy workers and ensure their welfare and future are better secured. Therefore, the proposal to create this gig Act will be presented to the Prime Minister to expedite the amendment of laws that recognize these food delivery youths as a formal occupation," he said.
Mohd Khairuddin was speaking at the officiation of the second phase of the Selangor XTIV e-Sports Robotics Skills programme, at Dewan MPKS Saujana Utama in Sungai Buloh, which also took place yesterday.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim met with thousands of gig workers during Temu Anwar Selangor X Belia P-Hailing, on the Petaling Jaya City Council's premises.
He spent an hour meeting with gig workers, giving them the opportunity to ask questions, particularly related to their sector.
