SHAH ALAM, July 13 — Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders often resort to playing with racial, religious and royal sentiments merely as a ploy to distract people from their poor performance in governance, says Selangor Pakatan Harapan chairman Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
In a fiery campaign speech at Bukit Melawati, Kuala Selangor yesterday night, he criticised Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, as the latter often resorts to personal attacks when presented with facts and data which contradict his allegations.
“That is his only means of attack. After being confronted with data, facts and credible findings, he has no ammunition to rebuke me or this state administration led by Harapan.
“After being confronted with facts, he has no credible rebuttal but resorted to making an issue of my height. What is this nonsense?
“So this is what they do best. Playing with sentiments when they have no other avenue of attack,” Amirudin said.
He added that PN has prioritised political manoeuvring over competent governance which can benefit the people.
The Selangor Menteri Besar said this is evident in the political tumult that followed the infamous Sheraton Move in 2020, which saw the collapse of the then-Harapan-held Federal administration.
“It has been proven they have failed to govern the country and their respective states. For example, for 30 years they have governed (Kelantan) and there is not one achievement they can be proud of.
“All they have is political manoeuvring or political intrigue. When they wanted to form the Federal government then, they even broke away from the party that they founded,” he said.
Amirudin noted that when PN cooperated with Umno, the former had also worked towards causing division within the party.
“After the 15th general election, they created divisions within Umno again solely to gain support.
“So we have to be vigilant of these people and this sort of behaviour because it is contagious and ultimately destructive,” he said.
