SHAH ALAM, July 12 — A total of RM600,000 has been spent on works to install light-emitting diode (LED) lights in the Bandar Country Homes industrial area and its immediate surrounding this year.
Incumbent Rawang state assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat said the project, funded by the Malaysian Road Records Information System (Marris) and which began on June 5, is expected to be completed by August 28.
"Alongside street lights, the allocated funds are also used to replace cables and upgrade electrical distribution boxes.
"The project will have a greater impact on the area, which is a commercial centre in Rawang," he said when contacted today.
Chua added the project is expected to benefit up to 100,000 residents and businesses in the Bandar Country Homes centre and its surrounding areas.
Since last year, the state government has spent approximately RM5.2 million to install 752 LED lights all across Selangor.
State executive councillor for infrastructure Izham Hashim said 382 LEDs worth RM2.3 million were installed last year, while an additional 370 lights have been installed so far at a cost of RM2.9 million.
