SHAH ALAM, June 23 — The Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) will begin planting grain corn in stages 200 acres of land at Sungai Kelambu in Kuala Langat Selatan, starting next month.

Its chief executive officer Mohamad Khairil Mohd Razi said the project, under the Inisiatif Sekuriti Makanan programme, had been delayed previously due to several technical issues, as well as flooding on the land.

"Asides from Sungai Kelambu, PKPS has identified another new area for a similar project on 200 acres of land, adjacent to the Selangor Fruit Valley (SFV) in Bestari Jaya which will commence next year," he said when contacted.

Mohamad Khairil added the 300-acre planting area in Gemas, Negeri Sembilan, is yet to start due to several unresolved technical issues.

On May 18 last year, the state government via PKPS signed a memorandum of understanding with Negeri Sembilan to implement the grain corn planting project.

Overall, the projects in Kuala Langat and Negeri Sembilan, costing RM3 million, are expected to reduce the dependency on imported feed for chickens and ruminants in Selangor.

Another grain corn planting project on 300 acres of land in Mergong, Kedah, has yielded results and have begun the process of conversion into chicken feed in January this year.
