SHAH ALAM, June 12 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has reminded the state civil servants to execute their duties with integrity and always convey the truth, even if it may cause discomfort or pain.

Speaking against dishonest behaviour, Amirudin called for a rejection of the prevalent culture of exaggerated flattery and insincere compliments, which even extends to embellishing official reports to create a positive impression.

Instead, he urged civil servants to focus on presenting accurate reports that reflect the actual situation on the ground, placing a higher value on truthfulness rather than merely safeguarding the interests of their superiors.

“There is no need for you to embellish reports and only paint positive pictures and cover up your superiors’ mistakes merely to safeguard their interest. This behaviour ultimately does not do anyone any favour, especially in carrying out your responsibilities.

“Speaking the truth even if it hurts is necessary and this is the same principle that is adopted by the Federal government under the Malaysia Madani concept.

“We need to tell the truth so that we can deal with the problem more effectively,” he told the state civil servants gathered at Dewan Jubli Perak at the State Secretariat Building, earlier today.

Amirudin delivered his remarks prior to a special address by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to Selangor civil servants. The address was in anticipation of the dissolution of the state assembly this month, which would pave the way for the state election.

Pointing to the importance of adopting the Unity Government's robust anti-corruption stance, Amirudin also urged the civil servants to report any instances of wrongdoing, irrespective of the individuals involved, to the relevant authorities.

Selangor dedicated to being welfare state

During his speech, Amirudin emphasised that Selangor is dedicated to being a welfare state. He highlighted the numerous forms of assistance provided to its citizens, spanning from the beginning of life until the end, encapsulating a comprehensive range of support.

This includes providing free tuition to vulnerable families, among other social intervention programmes, Amirudin pointed out.

“All of these aim to enhance the people’s well-being and social inclusivity. Emphasis is placed on balanced and inclusive welfare and benefits for the people.

“There is a strong focus on social development by providing opportunities for the people of Selangor to generate income through targeted social interventions aimed at urban and rural poor groups,” he said.

To support this endeavour, Amirudin said the state has also enacted numerous game-changing economic policies including the First Selangor Plan (RS-1), which aims to propel the state to contribute more than 25 per cent of the nation’s gross domestic product, while encouraging sustainable social and economic developments.

In his speech earlier, Amirudin also stated that June 19 is the fifth anniversary of his administration, which led some politicians to “prematurely” announce the state dissolution would fall on said date.

Amirudin made it clear that the decision is within the jurisdiction of the state ruler, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj. He emphasised that no party, including himself, should override the authority of the ruler on this matter.

“It is important to respect the ruler's position and decision-making authority in matters concerning the state. No party has the power but him to announce the date,” he told the press after the conclusion of the event.
