KUALA LUMPUR, April 9 — The state government is organizing the Selangor New Village Festival for three days starting on Friday (April 7), at the Pavilion Bukit Jalil shopping centre.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the inaugural festival was held to showcase and introduce historic products from 77 new villages in the state.

The exhibition themed Keindahan Kampung Baharu dan Mendedahkan Ciri Unik Setiap Kampung, also features beautiful landscape models from the 77 villages, located in 12 new village pavilions.

"Overall, there are 77 new villages but today we are introducing 12 with unique characteristics, like distinctive products, good leadership, and infrastructure which can be introduced to the wider public.

"This will serve as a motivation for other villages to improve and repair their existing facilities, as well as regularly holding activities to revive the new village economy," he said.

Amirudin was speaking at a press conference after visiting the Selangor New Village Festival yesterday.

Also in attendance were state executive councillor new village development Ng Sze Han, and Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok.

The Menteri Besar also invited the public to visit the festival, which concludes today, as it targets 10,000 overall visitors during its three-day duration.

The festival featured various exhibition components including the types of new villages in Selangor, the history of the new village, the handicrafts of the villagers, a forum, and performances for the community, to appreciate the charm of the new villages in the state.
