SHAH ALAM, Dec 12 — The state government will approve nearly RM3 million in allocations to deal with the problem of odour pollution caused by illegal waste disposal sites at Taman Bukit Jalil.
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the move is meant to solve the problem affecting over 10,000 residents who are forced to endure the stench on a daily basis.
He said water treatment utilising an effective microbial enzyme spray has already been carried out to reduce the smell of leachate, or wastewater, flowing into the reservoir.
"The state government will not hesitate to take decisive action (against those responsible) and has not ruled out the possibility of issuing Notice 8A, which is the act of confiscating land.
"Instructions have also been issued to the Department of Environment for immediate action to be taken against the responsible party or parties," Amirudin said in a Facebook post earlier today.
The Menteri Besar added that landowners and related parties have also been given stern warnings.
The recent issue of odour pollution arose after an illegal waste disposal site, derelict for two years, began to produce sewage wastewater and leave behind a foul smell.
