Explore new potentials to generate income, avoid depending on land tax revenue

SHAH ALAM, Nov 29 — The Selangor government is advised to explore new potentials to generate income and not rely too much on premium and land tax revenue.

Explaining that premiums and land taxes account for 67 per cent of state administration revenue for next year, Selangor opposition leader Datuk Rizam Ismail said the state administration should examine the potential to become a national food producer.

“The time has come for the state government to seriously consider other choices and potential to diversify revenue sources in Selangor,” he said during his debate on the 2023 Selangor Budget at the state assembly sitting, here today.

The Sungai Air Tawar state assemblyman added that the use of high technology in food production projects can ensure the security of the country's food supply.

“In fact, (the sector) is also able to generate high-quality and highly skilled employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for local residents,” he said.
