SHAH ALAM, Nov 24 — The state government has allocated another RM12 million to continue the Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat programme until March next year following a good response from the people.
State executive councillor for agriculture modernisation and agro-based industry Izham Hashim said that the programme was initially scheduled to be concluded in December.
“However, we decided to extend the programme until March next year due to the overwhelming responses that we have received throughout the instalment of the affordable sales since June.
“A total of nine trucks were mobilised by the Selangor Agriculture Development Corporation (PKPS) to nine locations in different state constituencies every day.
“As of October 30, over 200,000 people have benefited from the affordable sales which offer six necessities such as chicken, eggs, fish, fresh meat, rice and cooking oil at a discounted price between 28 to 30 per cent,” he said during the Question Time in the Selangor State Legislative Assembly, here today.
He was responding to a query from Rawang assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat on the total allocation provided for the programme.
Meanwhile, Izham said the programme has taken into account the struggles faced by the people after the pandemic.
“Prices of goods continue to rise and it is getting more worrying. Therefore, we have to coordinate with the community centres and identify the suitable locations to organise the programme,” he said when answering the supplementary question from Hulu Klang state assemblyman Saari Sungib.
Izham also said the programme is not permanent and acts as an intervention approach.
“The state government aims to give immediate assistance to the people to help them cushion the post-pandemic impact. We just want to help reduce the people’s burden,” he added.
