High-tide expected in Klang this evening, Selangor to see thunderstorms

SHAH ALAM, Nov 9 — Klang District and Land Office has warned residents in Klang to brace themselves for the high-tide phenomenon, which is expected to begin today at 6.40pm.

“The National Hydrographic Centre has predicted water levels to reach a height of 4.88 metres at Port Klang by this evening, starting at 6.40pm,” said the District and Land office in a Facebook post today.

The public office advised the people always to be prepared and alert of their surroundings and to report any flood incidents to the Klang District Disaster Management Committee.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Meteorological Department’s (MetMalaysia) forecast released at 4.45pm warned of inclement weather throughout Selangor until 9pm today.

“Similar weather patterns are expected in Kedah (Padang Terap, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu), Perak, Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Bentong, Temerloh and Bera), Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, and Johor (Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Pontian and Kulai).

The agency added that thunderstorms are also anticipated in Sarawak: Miri (Telang Usan and Marudi) and Limbang, as well as Sabah: Pedalaman (Sipitang, Kuala Penyu and Beaufort) and Pantai Barat (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu and Tuaran).

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
