SHAH ALAM, Oct 16 — Mobile pumps will be deployed to hotspot areas in the state in the event of stagnant floods resulting from the high tide phenomenon that is forecast to hit Selangor in the coming days.
State executive councillor for disaster management Mohd Najwan Halimi said this will be coordinated by the Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS).

This is among several state government initiatives undertakenahead of the projected high tide phenomenon as well as the coming northeast monsoon season.
He said the recommendations and input were provided by the State Disaster Management Committee and presented to the State Executive Council during a Selangor Economic Action Council meeting on Thursday (October 10).
“In general, all District Disaster Management Committees are prepared to face this phenomenon. Technical agencies such as the JPS have conducted regular patrols along the coast to ensure that the protective embankments are in good condition.
“In addition, JPS is prepared to deploy mobile pumps to hotspot areas should there be stagnant floods. State subsidiaries have also offered assistance with pumps if additional units are needed,” Najwan said in a statement today.
All District Disaster Operation Centres have also been activated, and announcements regarding the high tide phenomenon have been made through various channels.
“The police, the Fire and Rescue Department, and the Malaysian Civil Defence Force will also mobilise their teams to monitor and assess risks throughout the high tide period.
“This preparedness plan also takes into account the northeast monsoon, which is expected to arrive earlier, starting in early November,” he said.
Selangor is expected to experience a king tide phenomenon on Friday (October 18), with sea levels projected to reach 5.8 metres.
