SHAH ALAM, Nov 5 — The demographic diversity in Gombak has become the strength of Malaysian citizens and racial issues should not be polemicised, advises Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
The Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for Gombak parliamentary seat emphasised that racial issues should not be polemicised by certain individuals whose priority is to divide the community who has lived together in peace and harmony for many years.
Instead, he added that racial diversity should be celebrated, especially in Selangor.
“I am committed to a clean, fair, principled, and honourable campaign while canvassing with arguments based on accurate and up-to-date facts throughout the two weeks.
“I hope other contenders would be able to make the same commitment for the benefit of Gombak folks.
“This is to ensure the campaign for the 15th general elections (GE15), which officially begins today and runs till polling day on November 19 is carried out with integrity,” he said in a statement today.
Earlier this morning, Amirudin successfully completed the nomination process and was announced as the second candidate on the ballot paper.
Amirudin, the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (Keadilan) vice-president, will be facing four other contenders including three-term incumbent Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali on the Perikatan Nasional (PN) ticket, Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin on the Barisan Nasional (BN) ticket, Datuk Dr Aziz Jamaludin Mhd Tahir on the Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) ticket, and independent candidate Zulkifli Ahmad.
