SHAH ALAM, Oct 22 — Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has today reminded Malaysians living abroad that the registration period for postal voting ends tomorrow (October 23).
In a video on TikTok today, the Selangor Menteri Besar reminded Malaysians who can vote should do so in the upcoming 15th general election (GE15).
He said although five state governments had decided to not dissolve their respective state legislative assemblies, the voters should still go and vote for the parliamentary seats.
“The Selangor and Malaysian citizens should check their status on the Election Commission (EC) official website (https://myspr.spr.gov.my/login).
“Those who are eligible to vote should go to the polls on November 19 and vote for your choice of parliamentary representative.
“As for those living abroad or postal voters, the registration date for postal posting ends on October 23. Make sure you don’t miss out on the chance to determine the future and direction of the country at the federal level,” he said.
On October 20, the EC announced that GE15 will take place on November 19. Early voting will be held on November 15 and the nomination of candidates on November 5.
The campaigning period will take place for 14 days from November 5 until November 18 at 11.59pm.
The EC stated that the dates for the N66 Bugaya by-election in Semporna, Sabah, and the state elections in Pahang, Perlis and Perak will be held simultaneously with GE15.
The upcoming general election is different from the previous elections as several state legislative assemblies, which just held state elections, were not dissolved, namely Melaka, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak.
Sabah, Melaka, Sarawak and Johor held their state elections on September 2020, November 2021, December 2021 and March 2022 respectively.
While three states under PAS – Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah – and three states under Pakatan Harapan – Selangor, Penang and Negeri Sembilan – did not call for the dissolution of their respective state assemblies as their state polls are only due next year.
Only the states of Perak, Pahang, and Perlis dissolved their state assemblies to hold state elections simultaneously with GE15.
