SUBANG JAYA, Sept 23 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj graced the opening of the Putra Heights Mosque, here yesterday.
The Selangor Ruler had also performed the Maghrib and Isyak prayers and attended a dinner event at the mosque along with 500 congregants.
His Royal Highness was accompanied by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, Selangor state secretary Dato' Haris Kasim, Selangor Mufti Dato' Dr Anhar Opir and Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof.
Meanwhile, Orang Besar Daerah Petaling Dato’ Emran Kadir said that the district is home to 90 mosques and 406 suraus, which is the highest among other districts in Selangor.
He said Mais and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) have also received applications for the construction of 23 new mosques and 67 suraus.
“The construction of these religious facilities is to provide Muslims a comfortable and peaceful environment for them to perform their religious practices.
“With the development of new housing areas and the influx of people into the state to work, the population is rapidly growing,” he said in a speech during the opening ceremony.
The Putra Heights Mosque, which cost more than RM20 million to construct, was built by Mizura Bhd in November 2017 and was fully completed in April.
One of the largest mosques in the Petaling district, the two-story structure has a multipurpose hall and can hold up to 5,000 congregants at a time.
