PH govt has never degazetted Bukit Cherakah forest reserve

KLANG, Sept 10 — The state government will investigate claims that companies with RM2 capital are among those granted land ownership rights in Bukit Cherakah Permanent Forest Reserve.

However, Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the place in question was still a green area and no clearing activities had taken place.

"This state government has never degazetted the area, what we issued previously was just a statement or notification informing about the matter.

"I'm sure that what was described in the news report was not the area that was notified. If it was, it is an offence and I have asked my officers to go to the area that was mentioned.

“That may be a new or old degazetted area, but from what I can see on the map, it is not the area that was degazetted," he said.

He said this when asked by reporters about a news report by Utusan Malaysia, which claimed several private companies including those with an RM2 paid-up capital were given rights to the area in question.

Amirudin reiterated that ever since the state was governed by Pakatan Rakyat (PR) or Pakatan Harapan (PH), they had never degazetted the Bukit Cherakah area.

"For as long as I can remember we have never degazetted the Bukit Cerakah area, neither this administration nor Pakatan Rakyat has ever done so," he said.
