Undergo early screenings to prevent cancer, male group told

SHAH ALAM, August 22 — The male group has been recommended to get early cancer screening tests as cancer is of the leading causes of mortality in the country.

State executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said a late stage three or stage four diagnosis occurs in 60 per cent of cancer cases, particularly prostate, which is also the third most common cancer among men in this country.

“I would encourage the public to participate in the free health checks under the Selangor Saring programme by registering via the SELangkah mobile app.

“The screening test is offered based on the individual risk factor assessment conducted on the app,” she said on Facebook.

The state government has channelled RM3.4 million to ensure the success of Selangor Saring, which would benefit 39,000 people, particularly those with a family history of illnesses, obese individuals, or those leading unhealthy lifestyles.

Physical screening, blood and urine tests, eye, cervical and breast cancer, occult or colorectal faecal blood testing, and prostate tests are all available during the programme, which runs until September 4.
