SHAH ALAM, Aug 19 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has congratulated three local councils in the state on being awarded as among the top ten cities in the country with the highest levels of livability in the 2021 Malaysia Liveability Index (iDAM).
The local council are Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ), Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) and Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj).
“Congratulations to the people in @MPKajang, @PJcitycouncil and @SJcitycouncil on this success. Do continue to achieve outstanding achievements and in improving the quality of service to the people,” he said on Twitter today.
Yesterday, the state executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han also congratulated the three local councils on their achievement.
“May all three local councils be able to maintain their respective performances in the years to come,” he said on Twitter.
The three local councils received the awards yesterday in Putrajaya from the Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican during the launching ceremony of iDAM.
The other local councils that won the same award included the Putrajaya Corporation, Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council, Iskandar Puteri City Council, Kampar District Council, and Kerian District Council. Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) received a special award as a global city with a high livability level.
iDAM measures the level of liveability at the local authority level to improve the people's well-being, with the first phase of its implementation involving 101 local councils in Peninsular Malaysia that have used the MurniNet system.
It is aimed at helping improve Malaysia's rating on the Global Liveability Index thus being able to attract more investors, expatriates and foreign students to the country.
iDAM would also place Malaysia on the world map with other countries that practised measuring and evaluating the well-being of local residents such as the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) in the United Kingdom, MERCER in the United States and Monocle in Europe.
