SHAH ALAM, June 28 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has accepted the royal decree by His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, on changing the name of Persiaran Institut in Section 1 of the city.

Its corporate and public relations division said the name change of the promenade has been carried out, with the former Persiaran Institut now called Persiaran Tun Arshad Ayub, in recognition of the former director of the then-Mara Technology Institute, now known as Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).

"The name change is to recognise the contributions of the late Tun Arshad Ayub, who was a respected and venerable national education figure.

"Indeed the late Tun Arshad also played a pivotal role in strengthening higher education in the country, particularly in the development of UiTM," MBSA said in a statement.

The newly-renamed promenade consists of a 1.62 km road beginning at Bulatan Bistari in Section 2 and Section 3, up to the traffic light intersection near the University of Selangor campus in Section 7.

Sultan Sharafuddin recently decreed Arshad's name be eternalised by renaming one of the roads in Section 1, as a gesture of appreciation for his contributions.
