SHAH ALAM, June 16 — Breast cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers in the country, with 43 per cent of cases being diagnosed later.
State executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said if the disease is diagnosed sooner, it may be possible to prevent severe risks and high treatment costs.
“The Selangor Public Health Standing Committee carries out the Selangor Saring initiative to provide early detection tests for several diseases.
“Sign up now to get a health check. The screening will be provided based on an individual's risk factor assessment, which will be completed via an initial screening on the SELangkah mobile app,” she said on Facebook.
The state government has set aside RM3.4 million for Selangor Saring, which is estimated to help up to 39,000 people, especially those with a family history of illnesses, those who are overweight, and those who live unhealthy lifestyles.
Physical screenings, blood and urine testing, eye exams, and cancer early detection tests are all part of the programme, which runs until September 4 across the state.
This week, the programme will continue at five constituencies including Dengkil and Sungai Ramal on Saturday and Sungai Pelek, Pandan Indah and Teratai on Sunday.
