SHAH ALAM, June 9 — Seven Selangor districts will experience strong winds, heavy rains and thunderstorms as the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) predicts it will last until early evening today.
In a statement issued at 3.20pm, the agency said Selangor’s affected districts include Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang.
The weather will persist until 7pm.
“Other states and localities include the whole of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Melaka,” it said.
Perak (Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim), Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron and Rompin), Negeri Sembilan (Seremban, Port Dickson, Kuala Pilah, Rembau and Tampin), Johor (Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Pontian, Kulai and Johor Bahru), Sarawak: Betong, Sarikei and Mukah (Tanjung Manis) and Sabah: Pendalaman (Kuala Penyu and Beaufort) and Pantai Barat (Papar) will be similarly affected.
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
