KUALA SELANGOR, May 20 — The state-organised Kuala Selangor Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house held at the Bandar Melawati Bus Terminal today went off well with over 5,000 guests from all walks of life attending.
The programme began at 3pm and was enhanced by the attendance of Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari and his wife Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad.
Also in attendance were Selangor State Secretary Datuk Haris Kasim, State Legislative Assembly Speaker Ng Suee Lim, Kuala Selangor district officer Mohd Raiz Radzuan, Kuala Selangor District Council president Rahilah Rahmat, and Orang Besar Daerah Kuala Selangor Mohamad Yaacob Ismail.
In his speech, Amirudin said Kuala Selangor is the sixth district where the open house was held, as part of the programme to bring festive cheer to state residents after two years of no large-scale celebrations due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Although held on a working day, we can see the people clamouring to attend and lining up as early as 2.40pm to enjoy the meals and meet with friends.
"The state government thanks the district officer, the president of the local authority and department heads who successfully managed to organise this event. We hope this can strengthen the bonds of fellowship between the state leadership, the district as well as the local and wider population," he said.
During the event the Menteri Besar also handed out duit raya to children and mingled with the guests.
The attendees were treated to a variety of foods and beverages on offer, including nasi impit, satay, rendang, ayam golek, kuey teow, Javanese mee, pastries, apam balik, pulut hitam and ABC shaved ice.
Singer Siti Nordiana performed the popular serenades 'Hari ini Hari Raya', 'Bersyukur di Hari Raya' and 'Angkara'.
The large-scale open houses involving nine districts commenced on May 15 in Hulu Selangor and will end in Petaling and Klang tomorrow.
Petaling's open house will take place at the MBSJ public field in Puchong Indah from 2.30pm to 5.30pm, while Klang's open house will take place at Dataran Kompleks Sukan Pandamaran from 8pm to 11pm.
