SHAH ALAM, May 11 — The state government has allocated more than RM5 million to carry out “ibadah korban” (animal sacrificial rites) for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidiladha this year.
State executive councillor for agricultural modernisation and agro-based industry Izham Hashim said the allocation involves the distribution of 1,000 goats and 660 cows.
“Last year we distributed goats and the response was encouraging so we continue it this year with 1,000 goats with a minimum weight of 35 kilogrammes (kg) each. The number of cows is 660 with a minimum weight of 250 kg.
“The contribution will be distributed to the state assemblymen, mosques and non-governmental organisations (NGOs). The mosque committee need not apply as we will hand it over to them.
“However, NGOs and suraus need to make an application if they want to perform the sacrificial rites. We will make an announcement on this soon,” he told SelangorKini.
Last year, a total of RM5.05 million was allocated for the sacrificial rites that were sponsored by nine state government-owned companies.
