SHAH ALAM, April 25 — Five districts in Selangor are expected to undergo thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds until 5pm today, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In a warning issued at 2.05pm on Facebook, the agency said the districts include Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Hulu Langat and Sepang.

It also issued warnings of similar weather for the whole of Perlis, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor.

MetMalaysia also predicted inclement weather in several areas within Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Padang Terap, Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu), Perak (Larut, Matang and Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim), Kelantan (Kuala Krai) and Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Bentong and Rompin).

The strong weather is also predicted to persist until 6pm in several districts within Sarawak: Kuching, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei (Pakan and Sarikei), Mukah (Tanjung Manis and Daro), Kapit (Song, Kapit and Belaga) and Bintulu and Sabah: Pedalaman (Kuala Penyu, Beaufort and Tambunan), Pantai Barat (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud), Tawau (Lahad Datu), Sandakan (Kinabatangan) and Kudat (Kota Marudu and Kudat).

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
