SHAH ALAM, April 20 — Half of the state can expect heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms until later this evening, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia)
In a statement issued at 4.10pm, it said Selangor's affected districts include Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang. The weather pattern is expected to persist until 7pm.
"Similarly other states and territories which will be affected include Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Melaka and Labuan.
"Also affected is Kelantan (Jeli, Tanah Merah, Machang, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang) Terengganu (Besut and Hulu Terengganu) Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Jerantut, Bentong, Maran, Kuantan, Bera and Rompin) Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban, Port Dickson, Kuala Pilah and Rembau) and Segamat in Johor," the agency said.
In East Malaysia only Limbang in Sarawak is expected to see strong weather while for Sabah its areas include Pedalaman (Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort and Tambunan), Pantai Barat (Papar, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, Ranau and Kota Belud), Tawau (Tawau, Kunak and Lahad Datu), Sandakan and Kudat.
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
