SHAH ALAM, April 7 — Six of Selangor's districts are expected to experience heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms until later tonight, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia)
In a statement released at 4.15pm, the agency said these districts include Sabak Bernam, Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Petaling, Hulu Langat and Sepang. The weather is expected to persist until 9pm.
Other states and territories where bad weather is expected to occur include Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Gua Musang in Kelantan, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya.
"Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim) will also be affected, as will Terengganu (Kuala Nerus, Hulu Terengganu, Kuala Terengganu, Marang, Dungun and Kemaman)
"Parts of Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Bentong, Temerloh, Maran, Bera, Pekan and Rompin) will see strong weather, together with Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban, Kuala Pilah, Rembau, Jempol and Tampin) and Johor (Segamat, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Mersing, Kulai and Kota Tinggi)," it said.
MetMalaysia also forecasted inclement weather for East Malaysia, including Sarawak: Kuching, Serian, Samarahan (Samarahan and Asajaya), Betong (Pusa and Betong), Sarikei (Sarikei and Meradong), Sibu (Sibu and Selangau), Mukah, Bintulu, Miri (Miri and Marudi) dan Limbang, as well as for Sabah: Pedalaman (Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu and Beaufort), Pantai Barat (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud), Tawau (Kunak and Lahad Datu), Sandakan dan Kudat (Kota Marudu) and Labuan.
The agency issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
