SHAH ALAM, April 5 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds for five districts in Selangor this evening.
In a Facebook post, MetMalaysia said the bad weather is expected to occur in Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Hulu Langat.
The warning was issued at 2.10pm today, with the thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds expected to last until 4pm.
MetMalaysia also issued similar bad weather warnings for other parts of Malaysia including Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Perak and Perlis.
Other localities include several areas of Kedah such as Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu, Kelantan (Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Bachok and Pasir Puteh), Terengganu (Besut, Setiu and Kuala Nerus), Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Lipis, Raub and Bentong) and Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban and Kuala Pilah).
In East Malaysia, inclement weather is predicted to occur in parts of Sarawak including Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu and Kapit (Song, Kapit and Bukit Mabong) as well as Sabah: Pedalaman (Sipitang, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort and Tambunan), Pantai Barat (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud), Tawau (Lahad Datu) and Kudat (Kudat).
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
