SHAH ALAM, April 4 — Three districts in Selangor are expected to undergo thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy rains until 7pm today, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia)
In a statement issued at 3.50pm, it said the districts include Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Hulu Langat.
MetMalaysia also issued a warning of similar weather for parts of Kedah (Yan, Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling and Kulim), Perak (Larut, Matang and Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim), Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Bentong, Maran, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin) and Johor (Batu Pahat, Kluang, Mersing, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru).
The agency also predicted strong weather in several areas of Sarawak including Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong (Pusa and Betong), Sarikei (Pakan, Julau and Meradong), Sibu, Kapit (Song and Kapit), Bintulu (Tatau), Miri (Marudi) and Limbang and Sabah: Pedalaman, Pantai Barat, Tawau (Tawau, Kunak and Lahad Datu), Sandakan (Tongod and Beluran) and Kudat (Kota Marudu and Pitas) as well as Labuan.
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
