SHAH ALAM, April 1 — Three districts in Selangor are expected to undergo thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy rains until 6pm today, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia)
In a statement issued at 3pm, it said the districts include Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Hulu Langat.
MetMalaysia also issued warnings of similar weather for Kuala Lumpur and Perlis.
Meanwhile, in other states inclement weather is also predicted for parts of Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Padang Terap, Yan, Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu), Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim), Kelantan (Jeli, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang) as well as Hulu Terengganu.
The agency also predicted strong weather in several areas of Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Bentong, Temerloh, Maran, Kuantan and Bera), Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Kuala Pilah and Jempol), Johor (Segamat, Kluang and Mersing), Sarawak: Kuching, Miri (Subis, Beluru, Miri and Marudi) and Limbang, as well as in Sabah: Pedalaman (Sipitang, Tenom, Beaufort, Keningau and Tambunan) and Pantai Barat (Papar, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, Ranau and Kota Belud).
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
