Thunderstorms, heavy rains warning in Klang Valley, seven other states

SHAH ALAM, March 29 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds in the Klang Valley and several parts of Selangor until 7pm today.

In the warning issued at 2.30pm, the agency said bad weather will occur in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and the districts of Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Petaling, Hulu Langat and Sepang in Selangor.

It forecasted similar weather conditions in several districts in Perak (Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim), Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Lipis, Raub and Bentong) and Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban, Port Dickson, Kuala Pilah and Rembau).

MetMalaysia also predicted inclement weather until 6pm in parts of Kedah (Langkawi, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu), Johor (Segamat and Kluang), Sarawak: Betong (Saratok), Sarikei (Sarikei and Meradong), Sibu (Sibu), Mukah, Kapit (Kapit) and Bintulu (Tatau dan Bintulu) as well as in Sabah: Pantai Barat, Tawau (Lahad Datu), Sandakan (Tongod dan Kinabatangan) and Kudat.

The agency issues a warning when there are signs of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm/hour or is expected to take place for over an hour.

“Thunderstorms warning is a short-term warning which is valid within six hours after it is issued,” the statement read.
