SHAH ALAM, March 24 — The strong weather earlier predicted for parts of Selangor and the rest of the country continues, as the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) forecasted heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms for three of the state's districts.

In a statement issued at 4.45pm, it said Selangor's affected districts include Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Hulu Langat.

"Other states and areas which are also affected include the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory, Perlis and Kuala Krai in Kelantan.

"Elsewhere inclement weather is also predicted for Kedah (Kubang Pasu, Padang Terap, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu) Penang (Seberang Perai Utara, Seberang Perai Tengah and Seberang Perai Selatan) and Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim)," MetMalaysia said.

Terengganu (Besut and Hulu Terengganu) Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Lipis, Raub, Bentong and Rompin) and Johor (Mersing dan Kota Tinggi) will also be affected.

"In East Malaysia, Sarawak's affected areas include Sibu (Kanowit and Selangau), Kapit (Song and Kapit), Bintulu (Tatau) and Limbang, while in Sabah it is Pedalaman (Tenom, Beaufort and Keningau), Pantai Barat (Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, Ranau and Kota Belud), Tawau (Tawau) and Kudat (Kota Marudu)

"All the aforementioned areas will experience heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms until 8pm tonight," it said.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
