SHAH ALAM, March 16 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has predicted thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds for all of Selangor until early tonight.

In a statement issued at 4.30pm, the agency also forecasted inclement weather for the states and territories of Perlis, Penang, Perak, Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory, Putrajaya Federal Territory, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka.

"Other parts of the country which will face thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds include Kedah (Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Yan, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu) Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Raub, Bentong, Bera and Rompin) and Johor (Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Pontian, Kulai and Johor Bahru)

"In East Malaysia, strong weather is expected for Sarawak's locations including Miri (Telang Usan, Miri and Marudi) and Limbang, while in Sabah it is Pedalaman (Sipitang, Kuala Penyu and Beaufort) and Pantai Barat (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud) All the aforementioned locations will experience inclement weather until 8pm tonight," it said.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
