SHAH ALAM, Jan 28 - Works to strengthen high-risk slopes in Selangor will be carried out as a long-term measure to prevent landslide and landslip from reoccurring, said state executive councillor for infrastructure Izham Hashim.

He said a recent discussion with the Public Works Institute (IKRAM) revealed 25 areas in Gombak and Hulu Langat as being at risk for such incidents.

“Although the recent landslip at Lestari Perdana, Seri Kembangan was not in the list of high-risk areas, it is still a concern for us to take a long-term measure (to prevent it from reoccurring).

“Therefore, apart from addressing the problem in Seri Kembangan, we are also taking steps to ensure the same incident does not occur in other areas in the state,” he said.

He said this after attending the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) Golden Jubilee celebration at Wisma PKPS here yesterday.

Commenting on the landslip incident in Seri Kembangan, Izham said he has instructed the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) to install more piles to avoid any more untoward incidents there.

“I also asked IKRAM to investigate the unstable land condition there. After getting that information we will probably build a large monsoon drain in the area.

"I am sure there is a movement of water underground causing it to become loose and collapse," he added.

On Wednesday, five vehicles plunged into a large drain following a landslip in front of a car workshop in Lestari Perdana.

A similar incident had happened in 2017 about 50 meters away from the location of the scene.
