Selangor sees 200 plus relief centres accommodate over 30,000 flood victims

SHAH ALAM, Dec 21 — A total of 203 temporary relief centres (PPS) have been opened in nine districts throughout the state to accommodate 30,632 flood victims, as of 8am today.

This was confirmed by Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari on Twitter this morning.

He said the floodwater in Kampung Baru Hicom at Section 26 remains at three feet high, with the majority of the residents refusing to move out.

"An estimated 2,500 people are still there. Food aid was dispatched to all residents in the afternoon, as well as night meals by the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA),” he said.

On Instagram, Amirudin said he will help victims who are still trapped in Kampung Bukit Changgang, Banting, and Bandar Sri Ehsan.

Yesterday, the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah participated in an aid mission to rescue flood victims in Kampung Baru Hicom.

MBSA has distributed cooking oil, biscuits, mineral water, disposable diapers, and sanitary napkins to flood victims at the temporary relief centre at Dewan Dahlia in Section 24.

Unusual heavy rains since Saturday saw more than double the rainfall levels from the previous high of 180mm, which resulted in the inundation of many areas in the state.

All state government assets and Federal agencies, including the Fire and Rescue Department, Police, and Armed Forces, were mobilised to evacuate victims to safety as well as distribute basic necessities.
