SHAH ALAM, Dec 19 — The Selangor government had initiated several immediate measures to counter the extraordinary floods that have hit the state.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the flood was due to the rainfall that reached reach 380 millimetres (mm) compared to its highest record of 180mm.
“The following is the immediate action of the state government following this extraordinary flood disaster. This effort is being stepped up,” he said on Facebook today, that was accompanied by a poster that detailed the actions taken by the state so far which are:
— The operation of 46 temporary relief centres (PPS) that are equipped with basic necessities such as clothes, foods, hand sanitisers, face masks and cubicles.
— Periodical free Covid-19 screening and specific PPS for the victim who has been infected with the virus.
— Mobilisation of state government assets such as the Fire and Rescue Department, the Royal Malaysian Police and the Malaysian Armed Forces.
— Water tankers from Pengurusan Air Selangor (Air Selangor) were provided for the use of the evacuees at the PPS.
— Coordination by the 24-hour Smart Selangor Operations Centre (SSOC).
— Deployment of volunteers from Team Selangor and Selangor Volunteers (Serve) to help the process of relocating the victims to PPS, distribution of early aid and help with the cleaning process after floodwaters have receded.
— Closing 134 water gates to avoid water from overflowing into the residential areas.
— Activation of 93 water pumps that are operating fully to speed up water flow to the river drainage system.
