SHAH ALAM, Nov 25 — Any highway operators in Selangor who fail adequately manage erosion and mud can be subjected to action for failing to comply with the laws, said state executive councillor for infrastructure and public amenities Izham Hashim.
Kosmo! reported him as saying that manage erosion and mud is a necessity, so as to avoid any weaknesses that could lead to incidents such as flooding.
Izham believes the construction of many highways is a contributing factor to the pollution and turbidity of the Ampang River, alongside the construction projects in the vicinity being another factor.
"The main cause (of floods) is the rainfall in excess of 100 milimetres over a lengthy period of time, sometimes more than three hours, which results in the irrigation system unable to accomodate that much water," he said when contacted yesterday.
Izham added that further investigations are still being conducted by the authorities in relation to a mud flood in the Ampang area, particularly in Kampung Lembah Jaya Utara and Kampung Lembah Jaya Selatan.
It was reported that three hours of rainfall on Monday evening resulted in the Ampang area submerged in waist-deep water, and badly affecting 162 families.
