SHAH ALAM, Nov 22 — A total of 49 unlicensed hawkers in Petaling Jaya (PJ) were given temporary licenses today to conduct business activities during the post-Covid-19 period.
The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) said the Post-Covid-19 Temporary Hawker Licenses were granted following an increase in the number of unlicensed hawkers in the district due to the pressure of seeking a source of income.
“The Covid-19 pandemic has a negative impact on economic stability and indirectly affects the unemployment rate and the widening household income gap, especially among the B40 group,” the council posted on Facebook.
MBPJ also provided 51 plots of 8×8 square feet each for the hawkers under a plot-sharing system, where different hawkers use the space at different times.
Plot usage will be divided into three sessions, namely Session 1 (6am to 10am); Session 2 (11am to 5pm) and Session 3 (6pm to 12 midnight).
The handover ceremony for the licenses was attended by PJ mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir; his deputy, Sharipah Marhaini Syed Ali; MBPJ Licensing Department director Sharinaz Samsudin; MBPJ Enforcement director Mohd Fauzi Maarop and Zone 18 Councilor Ahmad Akhir Pawan Chik.
