KLANG, Nov 2 — A total of 71 temporary relief centres will be provided in Klang for residents affected by the high tide phenomenon and Northeast Monsoon, which is expected to run from November 4 to 7.

District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD) Klang acting chairman Mohd Shahrizal Mohd Salleh said the centres are situated in schools and community halls, and will be operated according to the National Security Council and the Health Ministry’s guidelines.

“The guidelines also include explanations on separation of the evacuees based on the Covid-19 risk, and they will be placed in different rooms,” he said after visiting the Pandamaran 12’s water entrance earlier today.

Shahrizal added further information pertaining to the centres’ locations can be found by calling the district disaster operation room at 03-33716700.

Among the locations for the temporary relief centres are Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kampung Raja Uda, SK Methodist, SK Pelabuhan Klang, Dewan Orang Ramai MBSA Section 19, and Dewan Taman Sentosa.

Similarly the chairman also requested the Public Works Department and the Department of Irrigation and Drainage to maintain the drainage system in preparation for the phenomenon.

“For example, the Shah Alam City Council has rented a water pump and built a temporary retention pond as a preparation to face flood disasters,” he said.

The Meteorology Department has forecasted that Selangor will be hit by the high tide phenomenon for four days in Klang, Kuala Langat, Sabak Bernam, and Kuala Selangor.

Apart from Selangor, the phenomenon is also expected to hit Kedah, Perak and Johor during the same period, and will worsen if accompanied by strong winds, big waves and heavy rain simultaneously.
