State Mosque permitted to host 2,000 congregants for Friday prayers

SHAH ALAM, Oct 13 — The state government has increased the number of worshippers allowed for Friday prayers at the Selangor state mosque to 2,000 people from 1,000 people previously.

In an infographic shared on Facebook by state executive councillor for Islamic affairs Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni, he said the number of worshippers allowed for daily obligatory prayers is still limited to 500 people.

The infographic also showed that mosques and suraus have prohibited any of its officials who are unvaccinated from conducting both Friday prayers and daily obligatory prayers.

“A report must be made to the district religious office, if any unvaccinated mosques or surau officials have been given permission to conduct Friday prayers,” according to the infographic.

On September 22, the state government allowed 1,000 worshippers to attend Friday prayers at Masjid Negeri, and 500 worshippers for daily obligatory prayers.

The ease of restriction is for fully vaccinated worshippers in their own localities.

The number of worshippers allowed for the prayers are listed below:

Friday prayers (700 worshippers) and daily obligatory prayers (300 worshippers)

- Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah in Bukit Jelutong; Masjid Raja Haji Fisabilillah in Cyberjaya

Friday prayers (600 worshippers) and daily obligatory prayers (300 worshippers)

- Masjid Diraja Sultan Suleiman in Klang, and district mosques

Friday prayers (400 worshippers) and daily obligatory prayers (300 worshippers)

  • Management mosques

Friday prayers (500 worshippers) and daily obligatory prayers (300 worshippers)

  • Institutional mosques

Friday prayers 350 worshippers) and daily obligatory prayers (200 worshippers)

  • ‘Kariah’ (parish) mosques

Friday prayers 250 worshippers) and daily obligatory prayers (200 worshippers)

  • Surau which have been permitted to conduct Friday prayers

For parish surau and musolla (Islamic prayer room/space), the number of worshippers allowed for daily obligatory prayers is limited to 100 people.
