SHAH ALAM, June 29 — The Selangor government has taken aggressive action in stages against illegal factories in the state.

In a brief statement on Facebook, Menteri Besar Dato’ Amirudin Shari said this was done via the local councils since last year.

“The state government will continue to take action against unlicensed illegal factories,” he said.

Amirudin also shared a screenshot of a news article dated November 3, 2020, which showed a total of 168 factories were operating without a valid licence, according to the respective local councils.

The breakdown includes:

  • Selayang Municipal Council - 75
  • Kuala Langat Municipal Council - 27
  • Subang Jaya City Council - 23
  • Klang Municipal Council - 20
  • Kuala Selangor District Council - 14
  • Hulu Selangor District Council - 7
  • Sepang Municipal Council - 2

The state government has enforced the legalisation process of illegal factories since 2008, which requires factories and landowners to apply for valid licences to legalise their operations.

Strict action, including raids on the premises, will be imposed on the owner who violated the land condition and on factory operators operating on land that is not meant for industrial usage.
