More agro markets to be established in city areas — Exco

SHAH ALAM, June 25 — The state government is considering opening more agro markets in the city areas, says state executive councillor for agro-based Industry Izham Hashim.

He said this was due to the strategic locations and high demand from urban consumers besides taking into account the fact that most of the agricultural products are from rural areas.

“I believe there is a high demand in the city because the price of products sold at the agro markets is cheaper than the market price.

“This move will also help to avoid a surplus of supply if there are too many agro markets in rural areas,” he said after visiting Selangor Agro Prihatin Market Centre at Taman Meru Jaya, here yesterday.

According to Izham, they received many requests from the people who wanted the agro market to be opened in their areas and he will look into the matter including conducting a study on the suitability of the locations.

Apart from Taman Meru Jaya, there are 12 other agro markets in Selangor;

  • Wisma PKPS Shah Alam
  • PKPS Collection Centre, Seksyen 7 Shah Alam
  • PKPS Collection Centre, Seksyen 9 Shah Alam
  • PKPS Collection Centre, Seksyen 13 Shah Alam
  • PKPS Operation Centre Meru, Klang
  • PKPS Operation Centre Pandan
  • PKPS Operation Centre Tanjung 12, Kuala Langat
  • Agrosel Operation Centre, Bangi
  • Selangor Fruit Valley Operation Centre, Rawang
  • Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) Dengkil Operation Centre
  • Fama Puchong Operation Centre
  • Fama Kelana Jaya Operation Centre
