Proposed full MCO in Selangor to be decided by NSC, says MB

AMPANG, May 18 — The proposed implementation of a full-scale movement control order (MCO) in Selangor has to go through several stages, including discussions with the state government.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the statement made by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba on the matter yesterday was merely a personal opinion and that a decision has yet to be made.

“We have to discuss it first and the National Security Council (NSC) have to meet and inform the state government on what we have to do or any follow-up action.

“The jurisdiction, especially to propose (a full MCO), is in the hands of the Health Ministry (MOH) and the NSC will make a decision based on the feedback. I believe this is still at the preliminary stage,” said Amirudin in response to the statement made by Dr Adham yesterday that the MOH is considering imposing a full-scale MCO in Selangor if the Covid-19 cases in the state continue to rise.

Dr Adham had stated that the MOH should propose stricter standard operating procedures (SOPs) in Selangor if the infection could not be contained.

Amirudin, however, expressed his concern that several members of the public, including people of Selangor, are not adhering to the SOPs, which could contribute to the spread of the coronavirus.

“This matter has to be discussed with the NSC and we have to look into this holistically, how a full MCO similar to the one imposed last March would impact us,” he added.

Amirudin was met during a visit to the free Covid-19 community screening at Dewan Dato’ Ahmad Razali, here today.
