SHAH ALAM, April 13 — The Selangor government is closely monitoring the number of Covid-19 cases identified in schools throughout the week before taking further action.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari the state will look into the origin of the infection and its potential spread.

“Two weeks ago, there were cases involving schools. Therefore, we will call for a special meeting with the representatives of boarding schools as well as the Education Ministry

“We will discuss the operations, especially when schools have reopened in full on April 5, as we are concerned about the safety of both students and teachers,” said Amirudin yesterday, referring to the return of secondary school students earlier this month.

He said about 30 to 40 per cent of teachers are exposed to the risks of the coronavirus, which includes fatality as some of them have chronic illnesses.

“Infection at workplaces are also still detected. Two days ago, there had been an upsurge in Sepang while other areas are under control,” he added.

Since April 8, the number of Covid-19 cases has continued to increase with 294 cases reported on Wednesday, followed by Thursday (374), Friday (403), Saturday (415), Sunday (535), and yesterday saw 303 infections.
