SHAH ALAM, March 19 — The state government will not hesitate to take stern action, including demolishing premises and factories that are still stubborn to convert their land use category from agriculture to industry.
State executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han said out of the 3,400 premises identified for failure to do so, only 363 had applied to convert the category of land use.
Ng Sze Han added that a total of 194 applications were approved, 144 were still being processed while the remaining 25 were rejected.
"We will not demolish all (premises or factories) because we still consider the economic aspect as the workers can lose their jobs, but if it causes huge problems to the community, stern action will be taken," he said when met at the Selangor State Secretariat Building here.
Commenting further, Ng said although notices and warnings had been given, these groups were still eligible to convert the category of land use even though the legalisation programme had ended on December 31.
He said those who applied after that date will not get incentives such as a 30 per cent discount which the state government offered since October 1, 2019.
Meanwhile, through the same programme, 1,246 premises were granted business licenses.
Sze Han said the main purpose of the legalisation measures was to reduce the leakage of state government and local authorities (PBT) revenue.
"It is not fair to others when the other party only pays housing and agriculture tax when they should pay a higher rate," he said.
