SEPANG, March 9 — Joint management bodies or management corporations (JMB/MC) have been urged to take up insurance to safeguard residences from unexpected incidents including natural disasters.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudjn Shari said aside from maintenance charges, insurance coverage to bear the costs of asset damages should be prioritised by the building administrator and residents.

“Insurance schemes are a good thing but it depends on whether the JMB can obtain funds from the residents’ association (RA) or not,” said Amirudin after visiting the storm-stricken Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi area, here yesterday.

Amirudin had commended the Dahlia Court Condominium as it had not faced problems in repairing the damages caused by the recent storm.

He added that the state administration is ready to extend funds to assist the condominium if its insurance claims are delayed.

A heavy downpour which occurred on March 6 had damaged 105 houses situated in Taman Dahlia (19), Taman Seroja (17), Taman Dahlia Condominium (12) and Seroja Hill Condominium (7).

Aside from that, also affected were Kampung Baru Pekan Salak with 20 houses damaged and Kampung Salak Tengah (7).

Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Taman Seroja, SK Salak and SK KLIA were also hit by the storm.
